Season 5 of “Pretty Little Liars” continues tonight with episode 4 “Thrown from the Ride” and if the episode title is any indication then fans are in for a wild ride themselves. The all-new episode premiering tonight on ABC Family at 8 p.m. is set to pick up where episode 3 “Surfing the Aftershocks” left off. Now that Alison is back in Rosewood she has begun to start face reality, following the death of her mother, Ali turns to her former four best friends.

However the synopsis teases that unlike the past, Spencer, Hanna, Aria and Emily are not nearly as willing to “blindly follow” her as they once were. Alison is shocked when the Liars don’t bend to her every “whim,” but fans should expect the former teen queen to use all the resources she has in her power.

However, Alison may not be nearly as powerful as she once was, and we don’t mean just with her control over the Liars. The synopsis for episode 4 reveals that in addition to feeling the pressure from Alison about their friend dynamic, the Liars are also dealing with a growing pressure at school.

Despite returning to Rosewood, Alison has yet to return to high school. Most students at Rosewood High are “morbidly curious about what happened to Ali,” although some students are more interested in their own devious plan for her return to school.

All of this chaos with Alison is nothing compared to the emotional spiral that Aria is currently enduring. Aria is still reeling from the effects of the death of Shana, despite killing the self proclaimed “A” in a moment of self defense, Aria can’t come to grips with the death of the teenage girl.

Her depression is only worsened by her awkward relationship with Ezra; although his health is recovering their relationship is still weakened. With no one to confide in and her guilt growing, Aria may find herself in an even worsening downward spiral.
