A Los Angeles man refused to let go of his dog during a standoff with police after leading officers on a high-speed chase.
Deputies confronted the man at a Lakewood business at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Officials did not say exactly why the man was approached, however the man ended up driving away, leading deputies on a pursuit, as reported by KTLA.
The chase ended in Long Beach after a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department patrol vehicle and a SWAT team BearCat were used to prevent the man from driving away again.
During the hours-long standoff that ensued, the man was seen with both arms wrapped around a pet dog, as seen in video captured by media firm KNN.
The man finally exited the vehicle after officials used less-than-lethal measures, filling the car with smoke. Authorities can be heard telling the man, "Let go of the dog," in the video.
The man attempted to run away, but was captured and taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries, KTLA reported. The dog was not captured, however, after it ran away from the scene.
