The zombie apocalypse is far from over. AMC announced that "The Walking Dead," which is entering its fourth season will be getting a spinoff set for a 2015 release. Producers Robert Kirkman, creator of the comic on which the television series is based, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert will also be working on the new series. Kirkman said he is excited to begin the project, and assured fans that there's no shortage of good material coming their way. "After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe," he said in an announcement by AMC. "The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."
The show does not yet have a name, and will not be based on any of the current characters in the main series. This announcement is in line with another AMC spinoff, "Better Call Saul," which is a spinoff of the soon-to-conclude "Breaking Bad." The spinoffs are expected to fill a hole many of the network's popular series will soon leave as many are drawing to a close. "Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer. We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It's a big world and we can't wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse," Charlie Collier, AMC president and general manager, said. The "Walking Dead" will return for its fourth season Oct. 13.
