“The Walking Dead” Season 9 finale was aired on March 31 and left fans guessing what happens next in the battle for survival of the people of Alexandria. The season ended with Danai Gurira’s Michonne arriving home to Alexandria after a blizzard hit their community. With the survivors having their leaders back, what lies next for the series?

Recent news of Gurira’s departure from the series has deeply saddened fans, questioning the future of Michonne on the show. This signifies a possible death of the character or a disappearance for unknown reasons, like how Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes vanished from “The Walking Dead” Season 9. But a more popular theory is that the television series will follow how the comics depicts her exit.

In Robert Kirkman’s “The Walking Dead” comic series, Michonne disappears for two years after the Negan and Saviors arc. She returns to the story in the 139th issue, showing up as a pirate fisherman for Oceanside. Negan, on the other hand, kills and beheads the Whisperer’s leader, Alpha, and presents the enemy’s head to Rick Grimes as a show of good faith. Michonne takes a group of survivors to Ohio to get away from the blood and carnage after the war with the Whisperers.

“The Walking Dead” Season 10’s storyline might follow the same flow, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan ending the terrible reign of Alpha and the plague she represents for Alexandria. This presents a unique opportunity for Michonne to leave the television series, bringing along the bat-crazed anti-hero along with her to find a new settlement.

To tie up loose ends, the series may re-introduce Lauren Cohan’s Maggie Greene. She might end up leading the remaining survivors and point the path for Michonne and Negan’s expedition to begin.

Not only will this ensure that the actors may exit the series, but it will also leave the roles open for possible future appearances. Hopefully all these will come to light when “The Walking Dead” Season 10 returns in October.
