Latin American voters have favorable views of political candidates who discuss the adoption and regulation of cryptocurrencies, according to a study published by exchange Bitso.

The study encompasses three separate polls conducted within the framework of electoral processes in Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. It sought to evaluate the importance that voters place on the stances regarding the use or regulation of cryptocurrencies and the use of blockchain by those aspiring to the presidency in those countries.

In Argentina, the poll was conducted during the last electoral cycle, which resulted in the election of right-wing candidate Javier Milei in 2023. The one in Brazil took place the year prior, when President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva defeated Jair Bolsonaro.

The study also includes a poll conducted in Mexico, where presidential campaigns are already in full swing before the June presidential elections.

Conducted in January 2024, the Mexican survey revealed that 4 out of 10 people would have a positive sentiment towards presidential candidates with a cryptocurrency adoption plan.

Only one in four Mexicans has confidence in cryptocurrencies, and 62% has more trust in a specialized entity if it's regulated, the document showed

In addition, 52% of people in Mexico believe that blockchain technology could improve financial services by allowing international money transfers in less time, with greater security and at a lower cost.

"Overall, there is a perception that crypto and blockchain can enhance and increase both services and financial inclusion," Bitso said.

In Argentina, the survey commissioned by Bitso and conducted by Synopsis Consultores after the presidential elections in 2023 highlighted that 81.3% of respondents were aware of cryptocurrencies or had heard of them.

Additionally, 1 in 4 Argentines mentioned that they took into account the candidates' cryptocurrency policies when voting.

62% of Brazilians Trust in Crypto

In Brazil, the 2022 survey, conducted by FSB Research Institute, revealed that nearly 75% of respondents were aware of or had heard of cryptocurrencies, while 6 out of 10 emphasized that they would give some importance to presidential candidates including the topic of cryptocurrencies in their proposals.

Brazil is the country that stands out when it comes to trust in the crypto industry as, 62% stated that they have some level of confidence in crypto.
