David Harbour is the perfect Santa Claus in this epically violent action dark comedy that definitely lives up to its name. The comedic holiday from 87 North; the producers of some of the best action-films including Nobody, John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Bullet Train and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw arrives in theaters just in time for the holidays. The R rated film is the perfect combination of ass-kicking and comedy. It’s a cross between John Wick and Bad Santa. Violent Night is not your typical Christmas movie and this movie is definitely not a wholesome, family-friendly holiday story with its ultra-violence and crude humor.
Violent Night is an upcoming action-comedy Christmas film starring David Harbour (Stranger Things, Black Widow) as Santa Claus. When an elite team of mercenaries break into a family compound on Christmas Eve taking everyone hostage, they aren’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus is on the grounds, and he's about to show why this Nick is no saint.
The film is directed by Tommy Wirkola, and written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller. It also stars John Leguizamo, Cam Gigandet, Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, Leah Brady, Edi Patterson, and Beverly D'Angelo. Violent Night had its world premiere at the New York Comic Con on October 7, 2022 and is scheduled to be released in the United States on December 2, 2022 by Universal Pictures.
Starring fan favorite David Harbour as our rude, drunk and oddball Santa Claus who seems to have lost the jovial spirit of Christmas. There are some truly hilarious moments from the “Bad Santa” as Harbour is literally the one carrying Violent Night on his back. He routinely patrons bars and consistently reeks of alcohol. He even patronizes a mall Santa Claus in a hilarious bar scene, which is hilarious in itself because he is the complete opposite of what you would expect from the real jolly ol’ Saint Nick. Harbour is naturally funny and has great comedic timing. The ridiculous and ill-mannered humor is what makes this film more than just your typical brutal action film. The extreme violence crude language and brutality definitely lives up to its name and audiences got exactly what they were looking for.
The movie is ridiculously fun, extremely inappropriate, gruesome, and full of laugh at loud moments. There are some corny jokes which fit perfectly into the christmas spirit. This pertains mostly to the “Christmas villains" which are so goofy and absurd that it actually works. The film also stars Emmy winner John Leguizamo (John Wick) who gives an awesome grinchlike performance as the main antagonist that goes by the moniker Mr. Scrooge. Leguizamo gives a great performance as the crime driven, holiday hating boss leading a team of henchmen of holiday goons such as Gingerbread and Krampus.
Violent Night definitely pays its respect to the cult Holiday classic Home Alone and is easily one of the funniest movies of the year. There are also some heartfelt moments, occasional bits of humanity and a traditional redemption story arc thrown in the blood-filled mix.
#ViolentNight is at the top of everybody’s Christmas list this season. Get tix and see it only in theaters TONIGHT. https://violentnightmovie.com
