An influencer that rose to fame by posting viral videos on the now-defunct social media platform Vine with his brother has been arrested on Friday, July 31, for brutally assaulting a man and robbing the victim of their $1,200 phone.

Hayes Grier, 21, has been arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina on Friday on outstanding warrants in California for his alleged assault and robbery of victim William Markolf, according to the Charlotte Observer.

The warrant did not specify Grier's motive in attacking Markolf, with other details in the case still unclear and under heavy speculation from the media at this time.

A social media influencer who started on the social media platform Vine, Grier is also known for being the youngest male "Dancing with the Stars" contestant after joining Season 21 in 2015 while 15 years of age. He is the younger brother of North Carolina Panthers quarterback Will Grier and internet personality Nash Grier.

Grier, who has over 880,000 subscribers on YouTube and 5.6 million followers on Instagram, has posted a bail of $17,500 and was released from jail at midnight of the same day.

Although details of the assault are still forthcoming, Grier’s attack reportedly inflicted on the victim “a broken left orbital bone (eyeball socket), brain damage, bruised ribs, bleeding from the back of the head, loss of hearing and more,” TMZ reported.

Grier also allegedly stole Markolf’s $1,200 phone, according to the NY Daily News. It is unclear at the moment if the robbery was Grier's motive for the assault, or if he just decided to steal the phone after the altercation as a spur-of-the-moment decision.

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, which arrested Grier on Friday, has not commented on the injuries or the details of the robbery.

Hayes Grier will be appearing in court on Monday, Aug. 2, to answer the allegations made against him. It is unclear, however, if Grier will appear in court in North Carolina or in California.
