A man in India has been arrested after he allegedly beat his 65-year-old mother with her slipper in full view of his neighbors. The incident which took place Sunday in the Amroha District of Uttar Pradesh, was brought to the attention of Amroha’s Gajraula police station after a video of the 40-year-old man, identified as Nanhe Pratapati, lashing out at his mother had gone viral on social media.
According to the The Times of India, the video showed the man hitting his mother with a slipper as he threw her out of his house. The viral video prompted authorities to take action and arrest Nanhe. He was sent to jail on Monday and was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Police reports said Nanhe’s wife and his mother had a showdown on the day of the incident. An agitated Nanhe joined in the tussle and began hitting his elderly mother with slippers. He was seen pushing her out of the house as he kept beating her with the slippers on the street.
The neighbors watched the family squabble and as the elderly woman was pushed out, she fell to the ground. Some neighbors took it upon themselves to intervene and rescued the woman.
In a statement from Amroha’s police superintendent said, “A case has been registered against Nanhe for thrashing his mother. It is based on a video that shows the man thrashing his mother. During investigation it came to the fore that the man had beaten his mother over a family tiff. The accused was sent to jail on Monday.”
In a separate incident earlier last week, a 19-year-old man in Delhi’s Karawal Nagar area, murdered his elder brother after he was slapped for talking to his sister-in-law. According to police, the accused, identified as Prashant Chand, along with his family, attempted to secretly cremate the victim’s body to avoid police scrutiny. They claimed that the victim, known as Prem Shankar, had died from a serious head injury after falling from his bed.
However, the priest who performed the last rites of Shankar was suspicious of the victim’s cause of death and told the police that Shankar may have died from a gunshot injury.
Prashant Chand was arrested by Delhi Police and a case of murder was filed against him. The accused told authorities that his brother got married last month and was upset with him after he started talking to his sister-in-law. The elder brother was against this and had reprimanded him several times. On the day of the incident, Prashant was caught once again talking to his brother’s wife and was slapped. The accused took out a country-made pistol and shot his older brother dead.
