Fans love to see Cristiano Ronaldo playing against his football rival Lionel Messi. And when they reunited for a friendly on Friday, they couldn't be more thrilled about it.
Ronaldo featured for a Saudi Pro-League Riyadh XI all-star team against Messi's Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in a friendly clash on Friday. The debate over which player is the greatest of all time has been going on for most of their careers. But some believe that Messi won last month when Argentina won the World Cup in Qatar, reported Manchester Evening News. The World Cup was expected to be the last hurrah on the world stage for Messi and the former Manchester United star. Ronaldo’s campaign ended in more anti-climatic fashion when Portugal unexpectedly bowed out to Morocco in the quarter-finals.
Following the exit, he has been busy penning a lucrative deal with Saudi Arabia club Al-Nassr. As part of his busy career, Ronaldo met Messi on the football pitch once again at the King Fahd International Stadium. The two stars exchanged a quick message of good luck just before the game. And now their fans are talking about it. One Twitter user wrote, "Love someone who looks at you like Messi looks at Cristiano Ronaldo."
Some claimed that Ronaldo gave a resigned look when he greeted Messi. One Twitter user couldn't stop laughing and said, "Cristiano's face." Another said, "Look at his face, he knows who the GOAT is."
The demand for tickets for the game had already skyrocketed. Millions of fans had gathered in front of their television sets to spot the two stars take on each other once again. As for the match, Juan Bernat was sent-off early in the game so PSG went down to a 10-man team. Still, the French club went on to win, with Messi opening the scoring. Ronaldo also scored a couple of goals but they weren't enough for his team to win.
Messi scored just three minutes in, but Ronaldo fought back and scored on a penalty kick in the 34th minute. Defender Marquinhos gave PSG the lead again in the 44th minute while Ronaldo managed his second goal, during the injury time of the first half. French superstar Kylian Mbappe also scored a goal off a penalty kick. Finally, PSG won (5-3).
After the game, Ronaldo, who met a number of friends, including Neymar and Sergio Ramos, shared a beautiful post on social media, saying it was "nice to see some old friends". He was also happy to be back on the football ground and score sheet.
