Another gnawing instance of a hate crime on a Brooklyn subway train was recorded on Monday.

As reported on NYDailyNews, an Asian man was physically assaulted by a stranger on a train that was Manhattan-bound. The scuffle broke out just as the train approached the Kosciuszko St. station on the border of Bushwick and Bedford-Stuyvesant. It wasn’t immediately clear when the attack occurred.

A detailed probe into the violent incident is underway, and the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force will be helming the investigation. Not much has been disclosed about the victim or his abuser. Going by the footage, the victim appears to be in his early 20s.

The spine-chilling episode sees the young man holding his own for a few seconds before things begin to spiral out of control. The attacker in question is seen throwing multiple blows at the victim on his head before putting him in a chokehold. The entire incident was captured on the cell-phones of fellow passengers.

The situation triggered mammoth panic, as the victim reportedly lost consciousness towards the end of the fight.

“He’s sleeping,” a bystander can be heard yelling in the backdrop of the video. What’s even disturbing to note is that nobody came forward to rescue the young man, though a volley of passengers are heard yelling and urging the assailant to stop.

The video began to go viral after it was retweeted by the NYPD Hate Crime’s handle. The caption read: “We need the public's help. The NYPD is aware of this video and is investigating. Anyone that has information regarding this incident is urged to call or DM @NYPDTips 1-800-577-TIPS and provide additional details including the date and time of occurrence. @NYPDTransit @NYPDnews.”

Soon after, the internet was divided in opinion. “This is what the white supremacists would like to see. Divide other ethical minorities as much as possible. I can’t tell the Asian man said the n-word by the way. There is no winner no matter who beat the other,” tweeted Tian Zhe, a user.

Another user named Crystal S, condemned the nonchalance of the other passengers. “Pray that Asian man is alright. All those passengers could have gotten up and overwhelmed that one attacker. Instead, they sat there watching.”
