Las Vegas police arrested 98 protesters who blocked traffic on the Las Vegas Strip on Wednesday. Members of Culinary Workers Local 226 donned red union shirts and began marching in front of the Cosmopolitan Casino. Individuals from the 54,000-member union were protesting the lack of a new contract and took their two-day protests to the next level by blocking the streets.
Authorities say 1,500 of the 54,000 union workers showed up Wednesday.
"Cosmopolitan, look around! Las Vegas is a union town!" protesters screamed, as they tied up rush hour traffic in Nevada's largest city. Negotiations between the union and Cosmopolitan's parent company, Deutsche Bank have been going on for over two years.
At least 98 of the protesters were detained by Las Vegas Police. Reports say as many as 104 may have been cited for civil disobedience-related charges.
Within an hour of the protest, city streets were reopened and traffic began to move again.
