Bonnie may be alive again, but with her new responsibility as the anchor of the Other Side, will she be able to take the physical side effects? CW

"Vampire Diaries" returns this week with episode 8 "Dead Man on Campus" and the Mystic Falls crew is dealing with some serious supernatural side effects. They have brought Stefan back home, but he is still struggles with the horrifying events of the summer, and while Bonnie may be alive again, she still possesses a deep connection to the other side. So will Bonnie and Stefan ever find peace? Maybe in time, but certainly not in "Dead Man on Campus."

The official synopsis for Thursday's all new episode comes with an ominous message "The Party's Over" and while Elena, Caroline, Damon and Jeremey may have been finally feeling content after putting the pieces back together, it seems they have over manipulated the supernatural world, causing more bad than good. Last week, Bonnie returned and was given the chance to live again but like all magic, the spell that brought her back comes with consequences.

Bonnie is now the anchor for the other side which means that each person who passes on to the other side, have to literally pass through Bonnie, which as we witnessed can be incredibly painful. In last week's episode, Tessa passed on, leaving the newly minted Bonnie crippled on the floor in excruciating physical pain. Now in the promo video for "Dead Man on Campus" we see that the pain does not lessen, as an elderly women approaches Bonnie saying "it's time." As she deals with this new painful responsibility, she is also trying to maintain a functional and happy relationship with Jeremy.

But Bonnie isn't the only one in Mystic Falls dealing with new pains, Stefan is struggling and his wounds are deeply emotional. Despite killing Silas, Stefan is still struggling. Stefan is still tormented by the images and memories that his brain continually produced while he was drowning in the safe all summer. The haunting visions are pushing him to feel nearly insane. But like Bonnie who seeks support from Jeremy, Stefan has someone to confide in and it's Katherine. The episode 8 synopsis reveals that "Katherine does a favor for Matt and manages to get through to Stefan, who is still struggling to overcome the events of the summer. " Not only is the former vampire really on a nice streak, it seems like she was determined to help her former flame overcome his emotional demons. In the promo video for "Dead Man on Campus" Stefan snaps on Katherine and chokes her, we are assuming the breakthrough occurred after the assault.
