Several hundred protesters were stopped by healthcare workers on the roads in Colorado’s Capital, Denver. The protesters gathered to oppose the state’s stay-at-home orders and the social distancing measures that have been implemented to stop the coronavirus pandemic from spreading any further.

The protesters took to the roads shouting “freedom over fear” and waving American flags to emphasize their constitutional rights. The public, at large, has also called Governor Jared Polis a tyrant and has declared that economic loss is caused due to shutdown is not worth the handful of lives that might be saved.

The people gathered outside the Capitol were blocked by healthcare workers in scrubs. The viral photos were clicked by photojournalist Alyson McClaran and shared on Facebook.

The photos show healthcare workers and nurses wearing scrubs and matching masks, standing with crossed arms in front of the protesters.

Denver residents drove for hours in trucks, cars, buses, motorcycles, vans and cars. One man has been reported to cross the capitol building at least four times on a horseback, holding the American flag.

“Pot shops are open, abortion clinics are open and my church is closed,” said one of the protesters in Jefferson County. “Death is a part of life and it’s time to start living again.”

The number of reported cases in Colorado has surpassed 10,000 and more than 500 people in the state have died so far. Similar protests have been reported in the other states, including Utah, Kentucky, Minnesota and Michigan with thousands of people blocking the roads to get the restrictions uplifted.

President Donald Trump himself is pushing to relax the U.S. lockdown starting May first week. Texas, Ohio and Vermont are some of the first states that are planning to take steps toward planned and a gradual opening of the lockdown. Several states have announced their plans to take coordinated action in association with the neighboring states to lift the ban.
