Uruguay’s Luis Suarez is one of the best soccer players in the world. In the 2014 World Cup, he has only played one game, but he is already cementing his place in history and among the current crop of World Cup greats like Lionel Messi, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin Van Persie.
But in order for him to walk among the greats, his team must first make it out of group play on Tuesday when they face Italy in a “must-win” elimination match. Suarez and his Uruguay teammates are familiar with Italy having played them a year ago in the semifinal of the Confederations Cup. Italy is infamous for their strong defense and “catenaccio” style of play, but Suarez believes he has found weakness in the Azzurri that he will look to exploit on the pitch come Tuesday.
“They have weaknesses as well as strengths, and we will try to exploit those weaknesses. We expect Italy to be tough opponents, but we know what's at stake and we are going out there to qualify." He said confidently to the media on Monday.
When pressed further on what exactly those weaknesses were, Suarez refused to disclose publicly what those might be or how exactly they would exploit them. He merely hinted that we will all find out on the field Tuesday.
The Uruguayan striker plays his club ball with Liverpool where he set the EPL record with 31 goals last season. His brace he scored last Wednesday gave La Celeste a much needed 2-1 victory over England.
Suarez is just a month out from knee surgery that almost made him miss the entire World Cup. Now, with his country facing elimination he will be fit and ready to take down the mighty Azurri on Tuesday. Italy simply needs a draw or win to advance to the Round of 16, whereas Uruguay must win the match if they wish to keep their dreams alive.
