Earlier this week, Porsche unveiled a special limited-edition 911 Club Coupe to honor the 60th anniversary of the first two Porsche owners clubs and I boldly stated that the Porsche 911 would be nothing without its fans (disclaimer: I am a Porschephile). Although the statement has obvious elements of hyperbole, that isn't to say that it's completely false.
When Magnus Walker was 10 years old, his father brought him to the London Earls Court Motor Show in 1977, where Walker first laid his eyes on a white Porsche Martini Turbo with red and blue stripes. Walker caught the bug.
Promptly, the young Walker wrote a letter to the Porsche factory, expressing his interest in designing for Porsche. Sure enough, Porsche replied, asking to meet with Walker again when he grows older.
Well, that didn't exactly pan out. Instead, Magnus Walker became a fashion entrepreneur, owning rock'n'roll apparel company Serious Clothing. Nevertheless, Walker was able to make a fortune, claiming to have owned over forty Porsche 911 sports cars in 20 years of racing and collecting. For quite some time now, Walker's goal is to own one of every first-generation 911 between built between 1964 and 1973. So far, Walker possesses each model year up to 72, missing only the last of that group.
Still as crazy for air-cooled Porsches as he was at 10 years old, Walker kept his old letter to the Porsche Factory safe. He said, "35 years later when I show up with that letter, I would hope that they'd be smiling."
Filmmaker Tamir Moscovici shared a short film, "Urban Outlaw," to showcase Magnus Walker and what it means to have a passion for an automobile. Check out the video below and learn more from the man himself:
