Touristy locations are seemingly becoming notorious for accidental deaths. Madalyn Davis, a 21-year-old model is the latest to join the list of those who’d plunged into their deaths at the Diamond Bay Cliffs in Australia.
Davis was out with a group of friends at the popular selfie spot at 6.30 am on Sunday post a night of partying at the Vaucluse. It is believed that the bunch was out to watch the sunset before she met with her death. They climbed over a fence to sit on the edge of the cliff before Davis met with her death.
Incidentally, Davis’ mother Rebecca Smith felt a certain sense of unrest on the day of the model’s death. It is said that she felt anxious and begged her friends to give details about her whereabouts. However, by Monday morning, Davis’ family confirmed her death. “Thank you for all your beautiful condolences for Madalyn Davis and her family— it is an absolute tragedy to which nothing has been confirmed,” a family member wrote.
The svelte model who was known for her carefree demeanor was mourned in dozens of tributes online. Davis, who had plans to start afresh, recently shared on social media that she was stoked about traveling and seemed excited for the future ahead. She had arrived from Lincoln, England sometime last year in hopes of settling in Australia. She was making a living by styling eyelashes $50 a set and occasional modeling gigs. Her body was retrieved at 10.30 am on Saturday after the Police commenced an air and water check.
While the unfortunate incident has shattered friends and family of Davis alike, this isn’t a one-off incident. In August last year, a 27-year-old slid to her death in an attempt to capture the perfect selfie by the Cliff for Instagram. In a bid to combat accidental deaths in the future, The Waverly Council issued a public notice last year stating strict measures were going to be undertaken against tourists who indulged in risky behavior just to get the perfect photographs. It has been stated that further discussion is underway in order to keep people away from the spot.
