Two inmates in prison for drug-related charges reportedly rung in the 4th of July Independence Day on Sunday, July 4, by escaping from a federal prison in Texas, authorities confirmed.
The escaped inmates have been identified as Arturo Campos-Zamora and Christopher Salazar. The jailbreakers remain at large.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, they were discovered missing at around noon from a satellite camp adjacent to Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Three Rivers in Three Rivers, Texas. The satellite camp from which Zamora and Salazar escaped is a minimum-security facility, Fox News reported.
Zamora, one of the escapees, 57, has been described as a white male with black hair, brown eyes, 5’7" in height, and weighing approximately 152 lbs.
On the other hand, Salazar, 27, is also a white male with brown hair, brown eyes, almost 6 feet tall, and weighing approximately 260 lbs.
Western District of Texas had reportedly sentenced them to prison for conspiracy with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Zamora was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison and Salazar to two years in prison.
Anyone with information on the escapees and their whereabouts is urged to contact the United States Marshals Service at 361-888-3154.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a prisoner managed to flee a couple of guards' clutches while undergoing treatment at a hospital earlier last month in the United Kingdom, Wales Online reported.
The prisoner reportedly escaped after he was escorted from Parc Prison to the Princess of Wales Hospital, in Bridgend, to receive treatment on June 3.
South Wales Police officers searched the health facility's premises and finally found the prisoner hiding within the hospital grounds.
"On Thursday, June 3, South Wales Police received a call for assistance from prison guards after a prisoner escaped from custody while receiving hospital treatment. Police officers found the prisoner shortly after hiding within the grounds of the hospital and returned him to Parc Prison," a police spokesperson said.
The prisoner reportedly did not come into contact with the public or hospital staff during the incident.
"During a hospital visit, a prisoner ran away from their escort. He was pursued and detained within minutes in the immediate vicinity of the hospital. He did not have any contact with hospital staff or members of the public," a G4S spokeswoman said.
Parc Prison, privately operated by G4S, is a Category B men's prison and young offenders' institution and accommodates 1,038 convicted male prisoners.
