While Twitter has yet to make it in the mobile music streaming service, that hasn't stopped the company from trying.
According to the website Recode,Twitter is contemplating purchasing SoundCloud, one of the internet's best places for sharing music. There's no word on how much SoundCloud might want from Twitter.
The purchase would make sense for the social media giant as SoundCloud content is already widely shared on Twitter, and its music files are incredibly easy to embed.
SoundCloud is already considered one of the premiere destinations for sharing music, from indie artist to big names like Snoop Dogg and Sia. It also has a pretty decent user base with 250 million member who actively use the service often leave comments on any specific point of an uploaded track.
This is not Twitter's first attempt at incorporating music into the social networking service. If you recall the company's first attempt was with Twitter #Music, which was an app that attempted to employ discussions around music and artists on Twitter to create a new way to discover music.
Unfortunately, the project failed and the company announced back in March that the app would be removed from the App Store and would officially be dead April 18. However, In a separate tweet, the company said it would look for "new ways" to incorporate music into Twitter:
"We continue to experiment with new ways to bring you great content based on the music activity we see every day on Twitter."
Perhaps they found what they want with SoundCloud? A deal with Twitter is also beneficial for SoundCloud as it might provide financial backing from advertisers for the music streaming service.
