Many of us hate our jobs. We leave home early and come home late. Our work can be physically demanding and we receive far less recognition for our efforts than we deserve. In fact, a miserable career can dock years off a person's life. Try telling that to motorcycle racers.
A new eight-part documentary titled "TT Legends" will follow a band of ordinary men that made great sacrifices to do extraordinary things. A rare look into the life raw lifestyle of motorcycle racing, Gaucho Productions was granted exclusive access to follow the Honda TT Legends team and its racers throughout the 2012 season of the World Endurance Championship.
Unlike other documentaries and films that specifically capture the excitement of the legendary Isle of Man TT circuit, this eight-part documentary will take us to venues including Suzuka, Japan; Doha, Germany; and Le Mans, France, as well.
Just as "TT Legends" suggests, the documentary follows the biggest stars on the grid. John McGuinness, also known as "The Morecambe Missile," was once a bricklayer before he entered and won the Isle of Man TT. In fact, McGuinness would win the TT another eighteen times. Next, Cameron Donald won the Isle of Man twice. Finally, the young and fearless Simon Andrews finished as the fastest newcomer of the TT in 2011.
A deeply intimate project, the cameras not only capture the racers through victories and triumph, but will also follow these daring men into what is, in fact, a humble life. The behind-the-scenes confessions allow motorsport fans to understand racing and the way riders respond to its pressures. Viewers will also get to meet the legends' families and friends, who accept their madness through tears and tantrums and learn to cope with the stress of watching them get hurt.
The eight-part series will debut on ITV4 starting Monday 4th February, 2013.
"The TT Legends have a fascinating story to tell and we're delighted to have brought it to life," said Gaucho Productions Executive Producer, Alistair Weaver. "Our crews have travelled everywhere with them, from bullet trains in Japan to Cameron's makeshift motorhome in Northern Ireland. This series is an extraordinary tale of human will and endeavour played out at 200mph. ITV4 is a natural home for it and we're thrilled to be working with them."
"ITV4 has achieved great success with its coverage of the Isle of Man TT," added John Claridge, the Head of Programme Strategy for ITV4. "The TT Legends series complements it beautifully. We're delighted to work with Gaucho Productions on a series that offering a fascinating insight into the riders and their lives. ITV4 has a rich heritage of producing exciting sports documentaries and this is no exception."
