Mary Trump’s tell-all memoir, “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man” is releasing two weeks earlier than planned, on July 14 and publisher Simon & Schuster have made copies the book available to reporters a week before its release. Carrying claims like Donald Trump cheated on his SATs and had a “high-functioning sociopath” as a father, the book is already the No. 1 bestseller on Amazon.
Mary Trump has made many glaring allegations against Donald Trump, claiming that his behavior threatens “the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric”. But it was family dysfunction that shaped Donald Trump into the man he is today, which included a “sociopath” father during childhood.
“Child abuse is, in some sense, the expectation of ‘too much’ or ‘not enough’,” she has written in her book. “Donald directly experienced the ‘not enough’ in the loss of connection to his mother at a crucial development stage.
“… Having been abandoned by his mother for at least a year, and having his father fail not only to meet his needs but to make him feel safe or loved, valued or mirrored, Donald suffered deprivations that would scar him for life,” she added. “The personality traits that resulted – displays of narcissism, bullying, grandiosity – finally made my grandfather take notice but not in a way that ameliorated any of the horror that had come before.”
His mother, also called Mary, left him and his siblings to the care of their father, Fred Trump, a property developer in New York, after she suffered health problems resulting from an emergency hysterectomy. But Fred Trump was someone accustomed to display negative behaviors like bullying, antisemitism, racism, sexism, and xenophobia.
"By limiting Donald's access to his own feelings and rendering many of them unacceptable, Fred perverted his son's perception of the world and damaged his ability to live in it," one passage of the book reads.
Watching his family disintegrate and fall apart turned Donald Trump into a self-centered, ruthless man, according to the book.
Another shocking claim made by Mary Trump is that Donald Trump allegedly paid someone else to take his SAT tests for him.
“Donald, who never lacked for funds, paid his buddy well,” she has written. “Joe Shapiro, a smart kid with a reputation for being a good test taker”.
She has also highlighted Trump’s notorious treatment of women and the controversies around it. She shares that when she was hired by him to ghostwrite his book, he provided her “an aggrieved compendium of women he had expected to date but who, having refused him, were suddenly the worst, ugliest and fattest slobs he’d ever met.”
