Editorial staff for a leading Texas newspaper published a thorough critique of Donald Trump and endorsement of Kamala Harris Friday.

The endorsement comes with just weeks remaining in the presidential race, where according to the San Antonio Express News, "Our national character is on the ballot."

The opinion piece titled "Kamala Harris for president" highlights Harris' inclusive rhetoric, the campaign's economic outlook, immigration policy, and ability to protect democracy. In contrast, the paper criticizes Trump in each area.

"Her messaging and experience," the piece reads, "stands in sharp contrast to Trump, who fueled the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, refuses to admit that he lost the 2020 presidential election, embraces authoritarian rhetoric and demonizes and divides the American people."

The Express-News Editorial Board goes on to state, "We recommend Harris on the merits of her own candidacy. But we do so knowing she would never describe fellow Americans as 'the enemy from within,' as Trump recently said on Fox News' 'Sunday Morning Futures.'"

Democrats have focused on Texas as a key state in 2024, where the presidential race has been consistently tight, with Trump barely in the lead. The Texas Senate race between incumbent Ted Cruz (R) and Rep. Colin Allred (D) has been even more contentious, with Cruz holding on to a narrow lead despite democratic fundraising efforts outpacing those of the GOP.

The San Antonio Express endorsement arrives on the heels of several prominent Republican endorsements for the Harris campaign.

Early in-person voting begins in the Lone Star state Oct. 21.
