Top Gear
James May, Jeremy Clarkson, and Richard Hammond discuss the upcoming car tests and Top Gear challenges we should expect in the season ahead BBC

An all-new episode of Top Gear BBC finally aired last tonight and the boys are opening up about what we should expect for the upcoming season.

Gathering around a couch for some casual behind-the-scenes banter, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond share their enthusiasm for the show's return while James May quietly debates whether he'll have Cumberland sausages for lunch.

First, the presenters give a sneak peak of their trip to the United States. A short cut scene reveals the trio armed with a Lexus LF-A, an Aston Martin Vanquish, and an SRT Viper while they are chased by an old war plane.

According to Clarkson, a number of major debuts during their hiatus will be addressed and revisited, including the new Land Rover Range Rover luxury SUV. In addition, Clarkson also promises a shootout between a couple of hot hatchbacks, which a favorite in Europe, in the episodes ahead. Changing the topic to more exotic machines, Richard Hammond quickly interjected by mentioning the $1.4 million Pagani Huayra, a very fast and very capable supercar that Clarkson just can't be bothered with pronouncing properly. The Pagani was already featured in the first episode.

Of course, Top Gear wouldn't be the same without its ability to offer practical consumer advice -- which it formulates from ludicrously over-the-top tests. This season, the three presenters will invite a couple of A-listers to help them test out Kia's new compact hatch Cee'd by participating in a hilarious game of Top Gear Rugby.

As for challenges, Top Gear is back with its classic race between a car and public transportation. Clarkson will be taking a veeeery fast Shelby GT500 across Europe while James and Richard will make the same journey on a train.

Long story short, Richard Hammond describes the new season in a nutshell, "You've seen Top Gear. It's like that but new."

Finally, the presenters end their couch report with an exciting announcement that James May, their very own "Captain Slow," has finally turned 50 years of age. Teasing James for his milestone, Hammond said, "But the glee for James is waking up and becoming officially the age he's always been! Must have been amazing, 'It's today! Been there for 50 years.'"

iMotor Times wishes Captain Slow a happy half century and an even happier half a century to go.
