The Consumer Electronics Show or CES 2014 has wrapped up in Las Vegas and lots of exciting technology has been revealed from many 4K TV’s by companies like Sony, Samsung and Vizio to self-parking BMW’s. With so many products set to hit the market soon, we have compiled a list of the top 9 gadgets and or services announced at this year’s event event. So without further ado take a look at the top 9 products we found compelling at CES 2014!
1. PlayStation Now – During their press conference at CES 2014 Sony dropped a major game changer in the video game industry. The company announced a new service called PlayStation Now that fixes that pesky backwards compatibility for PS4 owners. With this new service you game from the cloud, so no need to download or buy physical copies of games and you can even rent them. Think Netflix or Hulu Plus for PlayStation games. PS Now let’s gamers instantly play their games from a PS3, PS4, or PS Vita, without downloading and always in the most updated version. Plus, it gives users the ability to rent titles
2. Vizio 50-inch 4K Ultra HDTV – It seems Vizio perhaps won the battle of 4K HDTV’s at this year’s CES. The company unveiled a high-end TV that will majorly undercut many other companies. Many manufactures like LG, Samsung, Sony and Sharp all unveiled 4K TV’s but Vizio shocked and amazed when they revealed the price of their 50-inch 4K Ultra HDTV for $999. According to Pachal, the new 4K TV sets now include HDMI 2.0 connectors, which makes them compatible with everything the 4K format can throw at them, including frame rates of up to 60fps.
3. Yellow Jacket iPhone Taser Case – This takes self-defense into the modern technological age, and the best part is you’ll never be without your self-defense device. Yellow Jacket unveiled an iPhone case that doubles as a stun gun. The Taser takes about four hours to charge and once it does the device is capable of delivering 18,000 volts. The Yellow Jacket goes on sale at the end of February for $149.99 for the iPhone 5 and 5S.
4. Lenovo Horizon 2 Tabletop PC - Lenovo possibly resuscitated the dying desktop PC when they introduced the Horizon 2 Tabletop PC at CES 2014. The Lenovo Horizon 2 is a 27-inch touchscreen that can go fully horizontal, becoming both a gaming and media table for families to interact with together. And a novel pairing technique lets you drop multiple smartphones directly onto the screen, summoning a collection of your recent photos and letting you drag them off for editing and share them through the large touch display.
5. LG G Flex - The LG G Flex 6-inch smartphone has a curve that makes sense. The subtle bend in the screen allows for less light intrusion from the sides, and it distorts your own reflection just enough to obscure any distracting glare. The curve is also for the benefit of those people who like to keep multiple items in their pockets. The curve of LG’s newest smartphone is to make the device less intrusive while in your pocket.
6. Parrot Jumping Sumo & Mini Drone – This pair of Parrot AR drones are some of the best tech toys around. While the Mini Drone is very similar to the AR.Drone it does an extra added advantage, it can climb wallsThe quad-rotor 'copter can snap into a pair of six-inch wheels, which affords it the ability to zip across floors and skittle along walls and ceilings. While the Jumping Sumo is land based with the addition of launching several feet into the air. Both toys are equipped with a camera so you can have a birds eye view and can be controlled with your smartphone.
7. Audi Sport Quattro Laserlight – Laser headlights should be enough to sell you on this one. The headlights on the Audi Sport Quattro Laserlight concept car are actual lasers. While your typical high beams reach 820 feet, these can double that reaching 1,640 feet. Audi says they also have three times the luminosity. That translates to higher visibility and helps for safer driving.
8. Steam Machines - Valve showed off 13 different upcoming Steam Machine living room gaming PCs from 13 different manufacturers, and they vary as much as normal PCs. The size and variety of these devices are what’s most impressive here. while some Steam Machines are big, monolithic boxes, Gigabyte, Alienware, and Zotac's prototypes are smaller than most Blu-ray players and pack some solid PC hardware into their tiny cases.
9. Kolibree Smart Toothbrush – At CES 2014 Kolibree introduced the world’s first smart toothbrush. The toothbrush is designed to track brushing habits and encourages better dental care for the user. Kolibree analyzes brushing habits then displays them on a mobile dashboard. The toothbrush uses Bluetooth to connect to an iPhone and automatically synchronizing data each time the toothbrush is used.
