Far-right activist Tommy Robinson has been sentenced to prison after repeatedly breaching a court order by spreading false claims about a Syrian refugee.

The co-founder of the English Defense League (EDL), 41, had previously been barred from making accusations against Jamal Hijazi, a then-schoolboy, claiming Hijazi attacked girls at his school.

Robinson admitted to ten counts of contempt of court this week, The Mirror reported. Justice Johnson described his actions as a "planned, deliberate, direct, flagrant breach" of court orders, stating that Robinson has shown "no remorse."

"All of his actions so far suggest he regards himself as above the law," Johnson added.

Robinson's birth name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon. He adopted the name Tommy Robinson as a nod to a notorious football hooligan, influenced by what he described as a "poisonous uncle" who encouraged him to embrace his far-right persona.

Known for his anti-Islam rhetoric, Robinson has a history of stirring controversy under his alter ego, which reportedly led to conflict at home. His ex-wife Jenna Lennon, who divorced him in 2021, rejected his public persona, opting to shield their family from Robinson's extremist views, telling their children he was 'away for work' when he was incarcerated.

Despite declaring bankruptcy in 2022 after a £100,000 libel judgment in Hijazi's favor, Robinson allegedly has access to funds approaching £3 million, according to Hope Not Hate, through an international network of supporters and book sales.

Robinson, legally Yaxley-Lennon, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
