A toddler tested positive for meth after reportedly eating "onion crumbs" at a Minnesota day care, according to police.
The license of the home day care, which is run by an elected official, has been suspended after a 3-year-old boy tested positive for meth, KARE 11 reported.
The incident happened December6. The boy's mother, Victoria Kane, told the outlet that her son's behavior was "out of character" when she picked him up after the day care told her he had thrown up. She decided to take him to the hospital because he was fidgeting and talking nonstop.
After running some tests, healthcare professionals told Kane that her son had ingested meth.
"They told us he wouldn't sleep for 48 hours. We were up all night in the hospital," Kane told KSTP. "There was nothing they could do other than sit and watch him tweak out."
While the toddler was under the influence, he reportedly told his parents that he had eaten "onion crumbs" at day care. Kane and her husband later researched what meth looks like, which she told KSTP, "Sure enough, it kind of looks like onion crumbs."
The Minnesota Department of Human Services, who ordered the day care's license to be suspended, wrote in the order, "The allegations in the report indicate that the terms of a variance were violated and there is an immediate health and safety risk for children in care."
The toddler has since fully recovered. The South St. Paul Police Department confirmed the report had been received, but the incident is now under investigation by the Lakeville Police Department.
