NYPD officers working in Times Square Saturday night accidentally shot two women while in pursuit of a suspect. Glenn Broadnax was reportedly walking into traffic in an attempt to be struck by a car. Police attempted to take Broadnax into custody but the man evaded capture. The unarmed Broadnax then reached into his pocket as if her were going to pull out a gun and mimicked shooting at the officers. Police responded by fired back at Broadnax. The NYPD officers fired three shots toward Broadnax. Two shots missed the man completely hitting two female bystanders.

The incident happened on 8th Ave and 42nd Street, Broadnax had been wandering around the streets about a block from Times Square. When Broadnax reached into his pocket police believed he was pulling out a gun and instantly fired. Broadnax was actually pulling his metro card from his pocket and waving it at police. None of the three shots fired reached their intended target. Theodora Ray and Sahara Khoshakhlagh were both injured by the officers. One woman was hit in the knee and the other was grazed across the buttocks.

The two women were taken to the hospital, checked out and later released. The woman that was hit in her knee did have to spend the night in the hospital. In the end officers had to use a Taser in order to apprehend Broadnax. The 35-year-old was taken to Bellevue Hospital Saturday night and released on Sunday. Broadnax was booked on charges of "menacing, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, obstruction, rioting and cocaine possession," NYPD Officer James Duffy said to Business Insider. Since 1995 Broadnax has been placed in jail 13 times on 23 arrests. Charges include everything from turnstile jumping to felony assault.
