On Thanksgiving, Instagrammers shattered records when sharing photos of their loved ones.

Instagram announced that on Thanksgiving, more than 10 million photos that mentioned Thanksgiving-themed words in their captions were shared.

The photo sharing network said for several hours throughout Thanksgiving Day, more than 200 photos about Thanksgiving were posted every second.

"We're thrilled to see people use Instagram to share their holidays," the company said in a blog post. "Whether celebrating with friends and family or sharing photos with them halfway across the globe, we're excited to see the intimacy and immediacy of the Instagram experience bring us all closer together over this holiday season."

Instagram also said that Thanksgiving Day photos doubled from the day before and was the busiest day in the company's history.

According to Social Networking Watch, Instagram had over 100 million users as of September. Earlier this year, Facebook bought the photo sharing site for a reported one billion dollars.

On Election Day, Instagram announced that activity skyrocketed when President Obama was projected winner of Election 2012. The photo sharing network said the number of Instagram photos uploaded each second surged to 2.1x the normal rate. Instagram said in the United States, over 250,000 photos were tagged with #IVoted or #election2012.
