A police chief from Stinnett was arrested last week by Texas rangers for cheating on his wife and tampering with government records. The officer was identified as Jason Collier who had gone on administrative leave as early as Wednesday.
According to Hutchinson County Sheriff Blaik Kemp, Collier is facing charges with one state felony count of tampering with a government document with the intent to defraud. He was held in jail with a set $10,000 bond, Kxan reported.
“Collier allegedly sent a text message to the victim with a fraudulent government record attached. The document was a fraudulent marriage annulment,” said Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Cindy Barkley.
An investigation into Collier’s case was spurred after one of the victims posted on social media that the former officer was living a double/ triple life. Cecily Steinmetz announced she was engaged to Collier on Facebook before she found out that he was already married.
"I was his girlfriend until yesterday. He lied to me and presented me with fake annulment documents when I found out he was married," Steinmetz post on Facebook read. "I also found out about a 2nd girlfriend, Kristi, last night," she continued. "He has lied to us, our children and asked us both to marry him. He is a poor representative of your town."
Steinmetz alleged that Collier had sent her fake annulment documents, a photo of which was included in the Facebook post. Per the document, Collier made it look like he filed it in the 108th District Court. Judge Doug Woodburn confirmed that no such document existed under that name or cause number.
"Our cause numbers are completely different, consisting of a 0 followed by 6 numbers, starting in 7 or 8," he stated. "My court is followed by the letter E. It’s a fake."
Steinmetz had initially taken Collier’s word since he was in law enforcement. However, it just didn’t add up, especially once comments poured when she changed her Facebook profile picture.
"I would just hope that he has learned his lesson, not to deceive people like that. I was also about to believe him about everything due to his position. I mean, I would think that that would be a very upstanding person, and a very honest person," she stated.
