A terrifying crash ends a police chase involving a brazen thief that stole a Tesla Model S from a Tesla store after midnight on Friday, the 4th of July. The violent overnight crash caused the premium luxury electric car to split in half. The front end of the vehicle spun to a stop at the middle of the street while the rear portion of the car wedged itself into the side of a synagogue. The driver miraculously survived after he was ejected from the seat, but is in critical condition.
According to reports, the awful crash involved multiple vehicles. The Tesla Model S crashed into a light pole at speeds near 100 mph on the 1200 block of North La Brea Ave. At least 4 people were sent to the hospital. Two officers are hospitalized.
Police reports confirmed that the high-speed pursuit started around 12:50 a.m. when police tried to pull over the stolen Tesla near the intersection of La Brea Avenue and Don Ricardo Drive in Ladera Heights. Tesla driver started to flee collided into a Honda that was carrying five occupants. The Tesla most control after it ricocheted from the Honda and spun into the light pole. Unfortunately, two of those people in the Honda are in serious condition and one is in critical condition, police said.
"Debris was on fire, sparks were coming from debris," said a witness of the Tesla crash, who identified herself as Anne.
"Everybody who was looking was screaming," said witness Francisco Estrada. "They tried to help but there was too much smoke."
A police car lost control and struck a median during the chase, which injured two officers. Thankfully, the injuries are non-life threatening injuries. The officers were treated and released later Friday morning.
