Univision is the top-rated Spanish-language network in the U.S. and airs some of the most successful telenovelas. Currently they air "La Gata," "Hasta El Fin Del Mundo," "Mi Corazón Es Tuyo" and "La Malquerida." The latter series stars the drama queen of drama queens Victoria Ruffo that is known to be one of the best criers in Mexican soaps. Unfortunately it is not working ratings-wise and there have been nights it has been edged by Telemundo's "Señora Acero" that airs at the same time. According to a rumor on "Formula Espectacular" executives at the network are not happy with the results of the José Alberto Castro produced telenovela and want some compensation for it.
Being that Univision is airing most of Televisa's productions close to the air date in México, there's very little they can do. When they had a longer lead time, the editors would cut scenes to pick up the pace, making it end quicker and not have ratings decline so much. Other options they used was moved it to another time slot or just skipped it and not air it in primetime if it did really bad with audiences in México. With little inventory to resort to, Univision has their hands tied and will just have to ride the wave. The difference with Telemundo is that they actually produce their own telenovelas, so if something is not working they can make changes to the scripts to appeal to their audiences.
What will they do? It seems that they are working on a production that will be broadcasted stateside first and it's none other than an "Abrázame Muy Fuerte" remake. Yes, that telenovela that starred Victoria Ruffo, Aracely Arámbula, Cesar Evora and Fernando Colunga. Rumor has it that this new version will be produced by Angelli Nesma, the producer that brought us hits like "Lo Que La Vida Me Robó," "Abismo De Pasión" and "María La Del Barrio." This new production would air in January 2015 when "La Malquerida" ends. Everything is in preliminary talks right now, but we know from a close source that they have begun scouting for the lead actress already. What do you think? Will you watch an "Abrázame Muy Fuerte" remake?
