An infant girl is in critical condition after she was taken from her home and allegedly raped by a 19-year-old relative.
The heinous crime took place on Sunday, July 18, in the Bulandshahr district of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, India.
According to a report from the Times of India, the accused, who has not been publicly identified, took the baby girl from her house on the pretext of playing with her.
A few hours later, the accused teen, fled the scene after leaving the child on a cot outside the home. The family members who came looking for the baby girl found the child crying and profusely bleeding.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. The child’s family alerted the police and filed a complaint against the accused teen. Two other members of the same village were also accused of their involvement in the crime.
Police officers were dispatched to the scene after enraged villagers surrounded the main suspect’s home demanding him to be handed over to them to serve "quick justice". The responding officers pacified the mob and assured to take necessary action against the perpetrators.
The accused was arrested and is currently in police custody. The charges imposed on him were unclear at this time. Officials said that the case is being investigated and efforts were being put in to locate and nab the remaining suspects.
The victim’s parents stated in the complaint that the infant sustained serious injuries to her private parts and that the doctors who examined the baby girl confirmed that she was a victim of some sort of physical assault.
"Parents told us that the baby’s clothes were torn and injuries in her private parts were visible. We consulted doctors who suggested that some kind of physical assault had happened with the infant. We have filed an FIR in the matter and the accused was arrested late in the evening," the news outlet quoted Circle Officer (CO) Khurja, Suresh Kumar, as saying.
This is an ongoing investigation and no further details were revealed at the time of this writing.
