A 15-year-old girl hanged herself to death after her parents rebuked her for using TikTok. The shocking incident happened in Cairo, Egypt.
According to the police, the teen girl was addicted to TikTok and her mother had warned her from using the cellphone app.
However, the teen ignored her mother’s orders and continued using the app. She had recently posted a video on the app which angered her mother, who then complained to the girl’s father.
Police said the father scolded the girl, confiscated her phone, and grounded her.
Angered by her parents’ actions the teen girl stormed into her room and locked the door from the inside.
When she did not show up for dinner, the mother went to check on the girl but the teen did not respond.
The worried family members broke open the door and found the girl hanging from the ceiling. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.
The girl’s body was sent to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy and later handed over to her family for performing her last rites.
The police are investigating the incident and are speaking to the girl’s family and friends.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a teen girl in India’s Hyderabad was allegedly spurred to kill herself on Oct. 3, after her father scolded her for excessively playing mobile games.
The deceased teen, identified as Kaushika Reddy, allegedly hung herself from the ceiling fan with a rope after her father, Manohara Chary, got angry at her for playing mobile games.
“The father and daughter had a brief heated argument over it, during which, the girl suddenly rushed to her room, latched the door from inside, and hanged herself from the ceiling fan with a saree. Her family members forcibly opened the door and shifted her to the hospital, where she died later under treatment,” a police official said.
The incident is under investigation to ascertain no foul play, the Meerpet police station officials said.
