A Minnesota teen is facing 24 criminal charges after allegedly using Snapchat moments before a crash that caused a school bus to roll over, injuring 21 children and the bus driver.
The crash took place September 12 at a four-way intersection in Cherry Township when 19-year-old Svea Lynn Snickers, driving a Toyota RAV4, ran a stop sign and collided with a school bus traveling northbound.
Investigations revealed that she was driving at 48-53 mph without braking before the collision, according to KSTP.
A search warrant on her phone confirmed that she had taken a Snapchat screenshot seconds before the crash.
Snickers has been charged with five felony counts of criminal vehicular operation causing substantial bodily harm, 17 gross misdemeanors and additional misdemeanors for traffic violations and distracted driving.
Injuries among the victims, aged 5 to 17, range from minor abrasions to severe fractures and concussions.
Snickers is scheduled for her first court appearance on January 30, 2025.
