A California teen's joyride in the back of a pickup truck quickly turned to tragedy on Friday night after the driver started performing a dangerous maneuver.

A pickup truck with four occupants - a male driver, a female passenger, identified as Paulina Verduzco Mendoza of Gilroy and two male passengers - was performing "donuts" in a parking lot on Friday night in the vicinity of 14900 block of Camden Avenue, according to NBCBayArea.

The maneuver caused Mendoza to fall out of the vehicle onto the pavement, where she was subsequently struck by the truck.

the driver took Mendoza to a local hospital, where she later died, the outlet reported, adding that police believe alcohol was involved in the incident.

The driver was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail and was charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, police said.

According to police, this marks the 37th traffic death in San Jose this year.
