A 24-year-old woman identified as Lauren Patterson, a primary teacher at a British school in Qatar, went missing last Saturday, when she was seen with two men at a nightclub at the five-star La Cigale Hotel in the capital of Doha. It is believed that among the men there was an ex-boyfriend who lives in Qatar. She had just returned to Doha from the UK, where she attended her grandmother's funeral. Her boyfriend James Grima sparked a major appeal on social networking sites on Sunday after she went missing, but hours later claimed that she was dead, after her body was found "burned beyond recognition" in a desert.
"I can't believe that it had to end this way Lauren, I really don't. I was so happy that I had finally found someone that could change my life so much, and in such a positive way too... Rest In Peace babe ... I will always look up at the sky cause you always were the brightest star and always will be." Another status update read the following, "I love you so much babe, I really do and I can't get over the fact that you were taken away so cruelly, it really breaks my heart to think about it. I know you're watching over us, wherever you are, and I know that I will meet you again one day."
Lauren's mother, 48-year-old Alison Patterson, said her daughter was having the "time of her life" working in Doha in her third year as a primary school teacher at the Newton British School. She jetted out to Qatar earlier this week after learning the devastating news. "Lauren was a wonderful young woman having the time of her life. There have been so many people that have put to us how highly they thought of Lauren and loved her," Alison said. In a statement on the Gulf state's Ministry of Interior website, officials said: "The police has arrested the suspects of a European woman's murder. The case has been referred to Public Prosecution to complete further judicial procedures applicable in this regard." The suspects have not been identified.
The exact cause of Patterson's death, as well as the reasoning behind it, are still unknown and have not been identified by law enforcement in Qatar.
