A 33-year-old taxi driver accused of stalking and abetting the 2021 suicide death of a minor girl was beaten to death and his body set ablaze by the girl’s family members, reports said.
The charred body of the victim, identified only as Ramu was found in an open field in Bibinagar, a village in the Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district of the Indian state of Telangana on Tuesday, Apr. 5.
He was booked for the suicide death of a 17-year-old girl based on her family’s complaint. The case is still pending trial.
According to the complaint, the married man used to send text messages to the minor girl, allegedly harassing her.
On Tuesday afternoon, the teen girl’s family called the taxi driver, under the pretext of hiring his car for an outstation ride.
When the vehicle reached an isolated area the suspects asked the driver to stop the vehicle.
The family members then attacked the driver, while inside the vehicle. He died of his injuries and his body was taken to an open place in Bibi Nagar and burnt, police said.
The girl’s mother and brother later walked into the police station and surrendered, reports said. The duo told the investigators that they had together killed the man.
However, investigators suspect the involvement of more people in the murder. A further probe is underway, police said.
"There was a head injury on the victim’s partially burnt body. We have to gather more details from the victim’s family and suspects to find out who all are involved," an officer from Bibi Nagar police station told the Times of India.
A similar incident was reported last month when a man was reportedly burned alive by an angry mob after he allegedly murdered a 5-year-old boy for trespassing and playing in his compound.
The accused, Sunit Tanti, has been reported dead after being burnt alive by a group of agitated tea garden workers on Saturday, March 12, after he allegedly killed the boy named Ujjal Mura, by slitting his throat with a knife, for playing in his compound in Dholajan Tea Estate located in Dibrugarh district, Assam, India.
While the boy was playing with his friends in Tanti's compound, the suspect, who was said to be mentally unstable by his neighbors, got visibly irritated, suddenly pulled out a knife in a fit of rage, and slit the child's neck with the blade.
The boy, who suffered grievous injuries in the attack, succumbed to his wounds and died instantly. Following the violent incident, Tanti tried to flee the scene. However, local villagers, who got angry after witnessing the gruesome murder, chased down Tanti for half a kilometer before managing to catch him. They proceeded to thrash the suspect and set him on fire alive.
