A 37-year-old man from New York was arrested in connection with the shooting of a woman, who was shot in the back two times, at a Luzerne County shopping plaza in Pennsylvania Wednesday.
On Wednesday around 4 p.m., Pennsylvania police responded to the area of Envy Nails salon in Pittston Township for reports of a woman who had been shot, reported PAhomepage.com. The victim was walking back to her car when she spotted a man, later identified as Christopher Carmona, standing by her vehicle, said police. According to court paperwork, she said that they exchanged words and then Carmona shot her in the back twice and fled the scene.
While investigating, police noticed a pack of Hanes’ boxer shorts in the bed of a truck that was parked next to the woman's car. The truck's owner informed cops that the boxers did not belong to them. Cops then brought them to Walmart and were able to trace them back to a man who fit Carmona’s description. Carmona had also bought a cell phone and was seen on surveillance video pushing around a shopping cart looking into other cars, said police.
Police found several items that were taken from the victim’s car in that shopping cart. Carmona was found by police around 8.20 p.m. Wednesday walking along State Route 315 in the area of Cleveland Brothers, according to court documents. Cops stopped and searched him, and they found two credit cards on him. They matched the two purchases made earlier at the Walmart, as well as two guns and loose ammunition.
Related to the shooting, he is facing multiple charges, including firearms not to be possessed, and is currently being held at Luzerne County Prison. He has been denied bail for being declared a flight risk and danger to the society. A motive for the shooting is yet to be released by police, and the condition of the victim is currently unknown.
Sam Sanguedolce, Luzerne County District Attorney, said that they "believe that this is a targeted incident."
This comes after last week's mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, where a teen gunman killed 21 people, reported Fox News.
