A 35-year-old TV artist in the Chadoora area of Kashmir’s Budgam district was shot dead by terrorists on Wednesday, May 25. Her 10-year-old nephew was also injured in the attack.
Amreen Bhat was shot and killed by three terrorists belonging to the terror outfit LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) outside her home in Hushroo Chadoora. She was a local TV artist.
A day after the slaying, Bhat’s father, Khazir Mohd Bhat told reporters that his daughter was killed by the terrorists after she refused to go for shooting an interview.
Speaking to ANI, Khazir said : "Two people came to our home to call her for a shoot last night. They shot her after she told them that she would not go for the shoot. She was like a son to me."
Police had said the area has been cordoned off and a search operation was underway.
"She was shifted to a hospital in an injured condition where doctors declared her dead. Her 10-year-old nephew who was also at home received a bullet injury on his arm," Kashmir Zone Police said.
The boy is reported to be in a stable condition.
Former Chief Minister and NC vice-president Omar Abdullah tweeted: "Shocked and deeply saddened by the murderous militant attack… There can be no justification for attacking innocent women and children like this."
The Sajad Lone-led Peoples Conference condemned the killing and called it a "dastardly act of senseless violence".
On Thursday, the Jammu & Kashmir Police gunned down three terrorists belonging to the LeT in the Jumagund village of Kupwara.
"Based on a specific input developed by Kupwara Police regarding infiltration attempt of terrorists, an encounter was launched when the terrorists were intercepted by Army and Police at around 6 AM," an official statement read.
"One of the terrorists was shot dead about an hour later, while two others were trapped by the security forces."
Their identities are yet to be revealed.
