Sam and Dean are coming back, and per usual they are in trouble. It wouldn't be "Supernatural" unless one of the Winchester boys was in grave danger. So what's in store for them in Season 9? Well, apparently a lot, well for Dean anyway, Sam may be snoozing for a lot of it. When we last saw the demon-destroying brothers the youngest of the pair had received a serious injury and now it seems that Sam is in fact facing death. But will this actually be the end for sweet Sammy? Not if Dean has anything to do with it! In a new promo of Season 9, Dean attempts to save his baby brothers life by entering his subconscious and getting inside his sleeping head.

"You're dying, Sam," the elder Winchester tells his brother. But what a minute, if Sam is dying then how are they talking in the Impala? "Do you understand that we're inside your head?" Dean asks Sam, and now we know. Dean and Sam are only together in Sam's unconscious mind, but his brother assures him that despite his failing health, he will save his life. "Just because you're dying doesn't mean you're dead. We're going to fight this." Dean says. "There ain't no me if there ain't no you," Dean replies with an uncharacteristic amount of sympathy and pain in his voice. "There's nothing left to fight for," Sam yells back.

According to TV Line, the meeting of the minds was only possible after Dean pleads with the fallen angel Ezekiel to help him, after making some sort of deal, Dean is able to pass a message to his brother. Another fallen angel entangled in the Winchester lives is Castiel, and even after his recent transition into a mortal, things aren't going any better for him. Castiel attempts to help fellow fallen angels, and he does with the best intentions, although TV Line reports that he soon learns that he cannot b their savior because he has become their prey. In the promo, Catsiel is seemingly knocked out by a fallen angel, but now that he is mortal, all the angels want is "his head."

Other notable characters making their return to Season 9 are Crowley and Bobby. Both characters don't seem to have changed all too much, Bobby walks with Sam through a picturesque forest and it's hard to tell if it's real or imagined, but Bobby's words of wisdom are certainly genuine. As for Crowley, he's cranky, unhelpful, tied to a chair, and gets punched by Dean, not much new there.

"Supernatural" will premiere Season 9 on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 9/8c on The CW. Check out the trailer below!
