The highly anticipated title "Super Smash Bros." for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS is approaching its release date faster and faster. With the wait almost over fans are anxious to buy the title but which version will you be buying? With no possibility of cross-platform play "Super Smash Bros." Wii U and 3DS will be two entirely different games. With that being said we thought a side by side comparison of both titles will better help gamers make up their minds on which version they would rather spend their hard earned money on.

Let's start out with the titles similarities. The two versions will have all the same characters and in turn it is presumed that fighters will have identical physics and movesets across both versions. Though cross-platform play is off the table there will be some interactivity between the titles including transferirng the character customization from the 3DS to the Wii U or vice versa.

1. Graphics - There is an aesthetic difference of course. The Wii U harnesses more power than the 3DS so the graphics willl have greater detail. Sakurai did mention that fighters on the 3DS version have black outlines to help see the characters better since it is on a smaller screen. However, players have the option to adjust the black outline or turn it off completely. Even then the Wii U version will feature fighters with a colorful graphic style in HD, of course.

2. Stages - One of the major differences comes from each console version having its own exclusive stages. The 3DS version will feature more stages from handheld titles like "Super Mario Bros 3D Land" inspired stages and "Nintendogs." While the Wii U version will have console only titles like "Metroid" Pyrosphere and "The Legend of Zelda" Skyloft. There are however, stages like Battlefield that are possibly identical but will be different in aesthetics.

Not exactly sure who would care about this but in the 3DS version of "Super Smash Bros." no stage has more than two songs tied to it while on the Wii U, the number is higher. The music on each stage can be set through My Music similar to "Super Smash Bros. Brawl."

3. Modes - During Nintendo's April 8, 2014 Nintendo Direct, which focused solely on "Super Smash Bros.," it was revealed that the 3DS version will get an exclusive game mode dubbed "Smash Run." With "Smash Run" 2-4 players hunt down power-ups in a dungeon with all kinds of Nintendo, Sega and Capcom enemies. After the 5 minute timer runs out, the players will battle with all the power-ups they've collected. Nothing like "Smash Run" has been revealed for the Wii U version and we know that it won't have the Subspace Emissary mode either.

4. Release Date - One major obsticle that may force players hand is the release dates. The 3DS version of "Super Smash Bros." will release at least a couple months before the Wii U version so those itching to play can first buy on 3DS then on Wii U. The handheld version of the game will launch Oct. 3, with the Wii U launch coming Holiday 2014.

If we had to guess the Wii U version will arrive sometime in December. Other than that we don't see any reason not to buy both unless you only have one Nintendo console in which case you should probably just buy both for double the fun.
