Any longtime fan of the hit USA Network TV series “Suits” must have felt a little disappointed when the love story between Meghan Markle’s Rachel Zane and Patrick J. Adams’ Michael Ross had to be rushed. It’s understandable of course since Markle married Prince Harry and is now British royalty, and there are important royal duties to attend to necessitating her giving up her Hollywood career.
The last time fans saw Rachel and Michael was in the “Suits” Season 7 finale, which aired on April 25, 2018, in the aptly titled episode “Good-Bye.” The lovers finally got the wedding that every fan was pining for, but it was indeed goodbye for Markle as she had to give up the show for a new chapter in her life as a royal.
Of course some fans were quick to point out that Rachel’s wedding to Mike Ross in the finale of the seventh season of “Suits” was a lot less glamorous than Markle’s wedding in real life when she married Prince Harry.
After the wedding in “Suits,” Rachel and Mike planned to move to Seattle. There they will run a legal firm specializing in class action suits against Fortune 500 companies. In other words, they’ll be out of the series’ plot.
Back then, fans had assumed that it would be the last time they would be seeing Markle and Adams in the series. But they’ll be in for a pleasant surprise in “Suits” Season 9 as Adams will be reprising his role as Mike.
The actor revealed that Mike will be making an appearance in the fifth episode of Season 8. However, he’ll no longer be coming back to the firm as he’ll just be visiting New York to see his friends.
“For Mike, this is just a trip to New York,” Adams explained. “He's in Seattle, [Mike and Rachel] are building their life together, it sounds like he's doing well.”
But Patrick Adams’ return is not the only surprise that “Suits” has in store for the show’s loyal fans. Aside from Mike, fans will also get a glimpse of Markle’s Rachel Zane.
Getting a glimpse is probably the right phrase to use in this case as the Duchess of Sussex’s screen time seems to be rather limited based on what Adams shared. “There's phone calls with Rachel saying, ‘Goodbye, I love you,’” the actor explained. “You know, I think there's some obvious acknowledgment that she's still there and a part of the show.”
