According to Polygon, Electronic Arts and 'Battlefield' developer DICE announced recently that 'Star Wars: Battlefront' will be available for purchase in the summer of 2015, around the same time film director JJ Abrams will release 'Star Wars Episode VII.'

Now that fans have an idea of when to expect the highly anticipated Star Wars game to hit stores, here's 3 things to know about the upcoming Electronic Arts game.

1. 'Star Wars: Battlefront' Will Be Developed by DICE and use Frostbite 3.0 Engine

A gaming engine that is leading the way for popular games including 'Need for Speed: Rivals' and 'Mirror's Edge 2,' 'Star Wars: Battlefront' hopes the next generation version is able to take the game to new heights. Working alongside EA's DICE Studio, Label chief Patrick Soderlund is happy to work with the Digital Illusions team.

"This is DICE's interpretation of what Battlefront should be," Soderlund said recently. "That's the best description you can have. There are absolutely things in the previous Battlefront games that you'll recognize and remember, but DICE wants to put its own flavor on it. It's going to be very Star Wars and very cool."

2. Game Will Not Be Rumored Sequel To Battlefield

Announcing the production of the game at EA's recent E3, 'Star Wars: Battlefield' developers want fans of both Star Wars and Battlefield to know that the upcoming game will not be a sequel.

"We don't want Star Wars plus Battlefield, because that would be boring, right?" Patrick Bach of DICE said to IGN recently. "In general, we wouldn't build a game that is a copy of someone else's game. We couldn't do that. We're too stubborn and too annoying for people to think we could do that."

3. 'Star Wars: Battlefront' Is First Official Game Announced Under New License Agreement Between EA, Lucasfilm and Disney Interactive

The recent agreement between EA, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Disney Interactive will surely help put a remarkable brand stamp on the upcoming video game. Turning over a new leaf in the Star Wars video game world, 'Star Wars: Battlefront' will surely benefit from the DICE developers working with the new multi-year license partners.
