After "Spider-Man: No Way Home" stars Zendaya and Tom Holland seemingly confirmed their off-screen romance when they were spotted kissing in his car in July, fans of the franchise couldn't be more thrilled that it sparked a massive celebration on Twitter.
However, producer Amy Pascal revealed in an interview that she warned the actors not to become romantically involved, sharing she had given a similar warning to actors Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, who announced their split in 2015 after dating for four years, according to Glamour.
Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, who also played Peter Parker and MJ onscreen, broke up sometime before their second movie was scheduled. Pascal said she wanted to break the pattern when it came to the "Uncharted" actor and Zendaya.
"I took Tom and Zendaya aside, separately, when we first cast them and gave them a lecture," Amy recalled per TooFab. "Don't go there, just don't. Try not to. I gave the same advice to Andrew and Emma. It can just complicate things, you know? And they all ignored me."
Tom and the "Euphoria" star first met on the set of Spider-Man in 2016. Holland was the first to post a photo of his rumored flame, which subsequently saw both actors featuring one another on their feeds regularly.
Reports of their relationship were only seemingly confirmed when photos of the onscreen lovers kissing went viral in July 2021. Holland would address the private moment during his November feature with GQ magazine.
"One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn't really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world," the 25-year-old explained, according to Elle.
"I've always been really adamant to keep my private life private because I share so much of my life with the world anyway ... we sort of felt robbed of our privacy," he added.
Since 2016, the young couple remained tightlipped about the status of their relationship and for years, left many to wonder what's the real score between them. The pair now seems to be more comfortable sharing bits of their romance online while still keeping most details of their young love to the fans' imagination.
