Comedy Central's most popular animated series "South Park" returns on Wednesday, October 30 at 10pm EST with Episode 5 of Season 17, entitled "Taming Strange". After a bumpy last few weeks which saw the last episode, "Goth Kids", go un-aired after creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker missed their deadline, the show is expected to get back on track this week. According to a synopsis of tonight's episode from South Park Studios, "when Ike hits puberty, he and Kyle start to grow apart. To save their relationship, Kyle takes Ike to see a live performance of Yo Gabba Gabba." Scroll down to the end of the page to check out a preview clip before it airs.
Two weeks ago, a blackout in South Park studios caused Parker and Stone to miss their deadline, and viewers who tuned in expecting to catch a new episode were greeted with an old one instead, "Scott Tenorman Must Die". That was the first time in the 16-season history of the show that the creators, who typically deliver their final product just hours before the show's about to air, failed to hand it in in time. "It sucks to miss an air date but after all these years of tempting fate by delivering the show last minute, I guess it was bound to happen," said Parker then. "Goth Kids", which was supposed to run two weeks ago, ended up being aired last week.
IGN was less than impressed with last week's episode, writing that it "fell apart" toward the end and that "the novelty of 'goths vs. vamps vs. emos' started to wear thin" as the episode went on. The site added, "the idea of the goths and vamps summoning Edgar Allen Poe was a potentially funny idea, but again, this felt like a one-note joke that overstayed its welcome. I mean, we get it, he thinks all cliques are posers -- funny, certainly, but inflated."
Tonight's subject matter seems ripe for the creators, though. According to the official description for "Taming Strange", Kyle and his little brother Ike, who've always been close, begin to grow apart, as Ike begins to act out of character. "Kyle goes to the guidance counselor for advice," the description reads, "but Mr. Mackey is too busy dealing with the bugs in the school's new integrated technology system to help. Kyle decides to take Ike to a live performance of his favorite show, "Yo Gabba Gabba!" He hopes it'll make his little brother like him again." Check out the full episode tonight, Oct. 30 at 10pm EST on Comedy Central when it airs.
