Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum requested another name change in response to Google's decision to reflect President Trump's desire to rename the "Gulf of America" on its maps.

Sheinbaum told reporters on Thursday, according to the Independent, that she sent a letter to Google requesting the United States be renamed América Mexicana since parts of the United States were labeled as such on maps starting in 1607.

"We ask that when you put América Mexicana in the search engine, the map appears that we presented," Sheinbaum wrote in her letter.

She added that she knows she doesn't have the authority to change the country's name, adding that Trump also doesn't have the jurisdiction to rename the Gulf of Mexico.

Since the body of water is shared with Cuba and Mexico, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea states a country's sovereign territory only extends up to 12 nautical miles from the coastline.

"If a country wants to change the designation of something in the sea, it would only apply up to 12 nautical miles," Sheinbaum said Thursday. "It cannot apply to the rest, in this case, the Gulf of Mexico. This is what we explained in detail to Google."
