Sony Playstation, the exclusive platform for the famous Gran Turismo franchise, has now announced a brand new racing wheel that's based on the new Move motion sensing technology. While Nintendo offered a similar Wii wheel for Mario Kart in the past, will the new Sony Playstation Move Racing Wheel gain the acceptance of Sony's hardcore racing sim community?
From first impressions, the Move Racing Wheel design does a great job mimicking a Formula 1 steering wheel. Wide and flat, the round center section is also fitted with paddles for gearshifts. What's more, those large plastic grips look great for chucking across the living room when you're finally fed up with the impossible level. Just saying.
According to the expert gamers at Engadget, the wheel requires no battery power of its own - simply slide and dock the Move joystick into the steering peripheral and you're good to go. Engadget also reports that the main outer handles can snap into a horizontal position, converting the system for motorcycle gameplay as well. In fact, the right handle features a twist throttle, although its functionality depends on title support. Naturally, Move Wheel will also will also feature force feedback.
A freestanding accessory, Sony is pleased with the Racing Wheel's "precise motion tracking for responsive handling of your vehicle." Priced at $40, look out for the new Sony Playstation Move Racing Wheel when it goes on sale this fall.
For now, head over to Engadget and check out their quick review of the Racing Wheel in action during its E3 coverage.
