'Sons of Anarchy' returned to FX Tuesday night and the members of SAMCRO are still recovering from the events of last season. Jax (Charlie Hunnam) is working hard to keep his club from dividing even further than it already has. As for Jax's personal life, his wife Tara (Maggie Siff) is in jail as an accessory to murder and refusing to speak with him. Tara was witness to a murder committed by fellow SAMCRO member Otto (Kurt Sutter) and charged as an accessory for providing Otto with the murder weapon.
Tara is not having an easy time in prison. Her hair is cut short and she has large scratches and cuts on her arms. Former federal marshal Lee Toric (Donal Logue) who happens to be a drug addict pays Tara a visit. He is trying to convince her that the best option for her future and her sons is to turn rat and give Jax over to the federal government. Tara refuses and Toric tells her that her time in protective custody is over. Toric also paid a visit to Clay (Ron Pearlman) also in protective custody and offered him a similar deal in exchange for helping take down the "Sons of Anarchy."
Mean while Jax and the rest of his crew are busy dealing with an Iranian porn crew working out of Stockton. The Iranians specialize in rape and torture porn. Old lady to the late SOA member Opie (Ryan Hurst) Lyla (Winter Ave Zoli) was given work with the Iranian crew but was not prepared for the brutality of the porn the Iranians make. Jax and some key members of the 'Sons of Anarchy' head up to Stockton to deal with the men that hurt Lyla.
After setting two women free who were being hurt at the hands of the Stockton pornographers Jax and SAMCRO end up in a shoot out. Most of the pornographers get away but SOA does manage to put one of the brothers running the operation in a cage before the police raid the warehouse where all of this has gone down. Turns out the police work for a former crooked cop played by Peter Weller. Weller's character tells Jax and Nero (Jimmy Smits) that they should have called him first before stepping on his turf. Weller's character also commended SOA for getting rid of the torture porn makers.
Weller then offers Jax and Nero a potential opportunity to expand their escort service by getting involved with a hooker looking to legitimize. Jax like what he sees and it looks as though SAMCRO has a new cash cow opportunity. While checking out the escort house Jax gets a call from Tara's lawyer telling him Tara does not want him at her bail hearing, which is scheduled for the next day. In the very next scene we see Clay being led out of protective custody and into the general population at Stockton Prison.
Just as Clay is about to pass through the door her turns to the guard and tells the guard he wants to take Toric up on his deal. Is Clay going to rat in order to get back at Jax for setting him up? "Sons of Anarchy" is known for being a controversial show portraying gun violence and even rape. In fact the first scene of the season six premiere showed Otto being raped by another inmate. The rape was orchestrated by Toric as revenge for his sister's death. But the most disturbing scene comes toward the end of the episode.
Throughout all of the events happening in "Straw" walking around in the background, not saying anything is a young boy in a school uniform. The boy travels all over Charming and eventually ends up at his school. He writes a few notes in his notebook and then rolls up his sleeves showing marks indicating he is a cutter. The boy then pulls out a gun and walks into his school.
You do not see the violence but the viewer can hear the cries of frightened children and adults as they panic in fear for their lives. It seems this incident will be the cause Jax uses to get his club out of the gun selling business. The episode ends with Tara beating up another inmate in order to prove she is not one to be messed with and Jax sleeps with the hooker, no surprise there.
