The studio recently sent out a press release about an Easter egg found by using the popular mobile music-identification app Shazam during the end credits sequence of Marc Webb's "Amazing Spider-Man 2," which is set to debut May 2.
While it's easy for fans of the franchise to wait until the end credits of the film to identify "It's On Again" by Alicia Keys (featuring Kendrick Lamar) and see the special clip, the bonus content is actually available right now. Anyone with a smartphone and the Shazam app can unlock the content by listening to the song via YouTube then identifying that very tune with the smartphone app.
For the content revealed it appears that it teases the members of the Spider-Man super villain group the Sinister Six. Which includes Green Goblin, the Rhino, Doctor Octopus, the Vulture, Kraven the Hunter and a mask with smoke which could be two possible characters, the Chameleon or Mysterio.
Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal spoke in March about the post-credits Easter egg in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" verifying new characters for Sony's plan of moving forward with the Spider-Man franchise.
"At the tail end of ['Amazing Spider-Man 2'] we set up some of the other characters that will probably end up being in the Sinister Six. We're going forward on all fronts."
