"Sherlock" has officially began filming its fourth season, but the real question is when will this new season finally release? Fans have been waiting patiently for the new season to arrive and if these new reports are correct then we may have at least a launch window for "Sherlock" season four.
Given that the popular series has recently started filming, it's safe to assume that we are going to have to wait a bit for the season to wrap and edit. Given that information, it is likely we will not see the series premiere until January 2017, reports Den of Geek.
As for what to expect in "Sherlock" season four, BBC released this official synopsis:
"[Season 4] begins with the nation’s favourite detective, the mercurial Sherlock Holmes, back once more on British soil, as Doctor Watson and his wife Mary prepare for their biggest ever challenge – becoming parents for the first time."
Co-creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat had this to say about the forthcoming season in an official press release:
"Sherlock series four - here we go again! Whatever else we do, wherever we all go, all roads lead back to Baker Street - and it always feels like coming home. Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson bringing adventure, romance and terror in their wake. This is the story we’ve been telling from the beginning. A story about to reach its climax..."
So far there has been no announcement of a change up in the main cast, so viewers can expect to see Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Amanda Abbington, Una Stubbs, Louise Brealey, Rupert Graves and Jonathan Aris.
Furthermore, we know Daniel Hoffmann-Gill will be in the fourth season as the actor tweeted, "Proud to be part Sherlock as well as Doctor Who. All I need now is Game of Thrones and I've got the set. #setlock."
As expected, season four will be "three stand-alone films, 90 minutes each, and an ongoing mystery" said Moffat. As for episode titles, Gatiss said that the "Sherlock" team will release single word spoilers for each of the three 90-minute episodes set to make up season four, just as they did with the third season episodes before they aired.
