George Zimmerman's reportedly estranged wife, Shellie, called the police to respond to her father's home in Florida on Monday. Shellie stated that her husband, the former neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted of the murder of Trayvon Martin, had threatened her with a gun.

Shellie Zimmerman had called the Lake Mary police around 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon, according to the Lake Mary Police Chief, Steve Bracknell. When officers responded to the home of Shellie's father, David Dean they took Zimmerman into custody and placed him under investigation detention. Police are attempting to determine what happened between George, Shellie and David Dean. "We've only heard one side of the story so far," Bracknell said.

Lake Mary police spokesman Zach Hudson stated that Shellie placed the call to 911, adding that police are following procedure by placing Zimmerman in investigative detention. "Anytime we have anybody suspected of doing anything, we place them in investigative detention until a complete investigation has been done."

Shellie Zimmerman filed for divorce from her husband of six years last week. Shellie reported that she and George have been separated for a month after he was acquitted of murder for shooting and killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on July 13. Shellie filed for divorce in Seminole County after pleading guilty to perjury on Aug. 28. Zimmerman admitted lying about finances. At a bond hearing in April of 2012 Shellie claimed the couple was destitute, when in reality they had collected about $135,000 in donations. Shellie was sentenced to a year's probation and 100 hours of community service. Zimmerman was notably absent at the sentencing hearing in the Sanford courtroom.

In the divorce petition, Shellie asked that her husband pay for a permanent life insurance policy with her named as the beneficiary. Shellie discussed her failing marriage in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America," admitting her husband left her with "a bunch of pieces of broken glass" after the acquittal. She also said that he only stayed in their home for about three or four nights since the end of the trial, and they even tried counseling, but the marriage was beyond repair because of George's selfish nature. "I have a selfish husband and I think George is all about George," she said. Shellie moved out of the couple's home on Aug. 13.

George Zimmeran's brother Robert Zimmerman Jr., tweeted that "we've learned from GZ case not to 'jump to conclusions,' to wait for facts, & to avoid speculation. 'News' is a business - not your friend."
